How do you design them?

FriteLites are designed by Jonathan Rosenbaum using a combination of 3D modeling software. He creates each design digitally, considering how the light will interact with the final form. Some designs start as sketches, while others are built entirely within the software. Techniques like using holes and varying surface thickness allow light to shine through in interesting ways.

What Software do you use?

A variety of software is used, depending on the design needs. Some common programs include:

Tinkercad: A free, beginner-friendly program for creating 3D models.
Nomad Sculpt: An iPad app for sculpting and adding detail to 3D models.
Womp Pro: A sculpting software known for its ability to create organic shapes.
Chitubox Pro: Software used to prepare 3D models for resin printing.

How are they made and what are FriteLites Made out of?

FriteLites are 3D printed using resin. Resin printing creates objects by curing layers of liquid resin with UV light. This process allows for high-precision models with smooth finishes. Standard resin is used for its affordability and ability to capture details. Unlike FDM (filament) printing, resin printing offers superior light transmittance, making it ideal for FriteLites’ glowing effect. Clear resin can also be used to enhance light diffusion in darker colors.

What’s with some of those eyes?

Marbles are used for the eyes on some FriteLites because they add a unique touch and depth compared to simple holes. The common size of 16mm marbles works well and allows them to be easily inserted. However, slight variations in marble size may require minor adjustments during the design process.

Can I put a real candle in there?

For safety reasons, using real candles with FriteLites is not recommended. The material’s reaction to heat hasn’t been thoroughly tested, and potential fire hazards exist. While future designs may incorporate safe candle integration, it’s not currently supported.

What is the FriteLite theme?

The theme is “Creepy Cute.” This combines slightly spooky creatures with a charming aesthetic, making them fun and inviting additions to your home.

Do FriteLites come with a light?

Yes, each FriteLite includes a standard electric LED tea light. These tea lights are easily accessible for battery replacement. They are not glued in but secured with a small card shim, allowing for easy color changes or replacements.

How long does the battery in the tea light last?

According to the manufacturer, the LED tea lights should last approximately 200 hours and use CR2032 batteries. They are standard size (1.5 x 1.5 inches).
